Michael adopts a flexible, client-centred approach, using a variety of tools and techniques to suit the coaching needs of each client, including being able to draw upon his extensive career experience, working with senior executives and professionals.
Before becoming a coach, Michael’s career saw him spend more than two decades at leading international law firms Herbert Smith Freehills and Clifford Chance specialising in corporate law, Michael was part of the leadership team at Barclays and then at RBS/NatWest Group in the period immediately following the Global Financial Crisis. As Group General Counsel of RBS/NatWest, he was leader of the Bank’s Legal, Governance and Regulatory Affairs function and a member of the Executive Committee which steered the Bank through fundamental strategic, organisational, reputational and cultural transformations.
Michael trained as a coach through the Meyler Campbell Mastered programme and now enjoys helping clients to achieve their own successes, alongside a non-executive career of his own, including as Chair of a leading independent Scottish law firm.
Michael is passionate about purpose, culture and leadership with integrity and enjoys working with leaders at all stages of their career and in all industries, with a particular focus on professional and financial services. Areas of focus include building confidence, resilience and resourcefulness to help equip leaders with the skills they need to balance the complexity of their roles.
